This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use studentdiscountoffers.co.uk, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain English.
Who we are

SJ Marketing Limited is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. That means we decide how and why it is used, and we are responsible for looking after it.
SJ Marketing Limited does not currently have an ICO registration number.

- Email: support@studentdiscountoffers.co.uk

What we collect
Your email address, if you sign up for deals
You can sign up for deal emails on our homepage and on our subscribe page. The only information we ask you for is your email address, which we use to send you student deals. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us.
MailPoet is installed to collect email sign-ups. Confirmation emails are not sending yet, because Amazon SES is not configured.
Messages you send us
If you contact us at support@studentdiscountoffers.co.uk, we keep your message, your email address and any other details you choose to include, so we can reply.
Site statistics
We use Jetpack Stats, a statistics service from Automattic that loads from stats.wp.com, to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they view. This helps us see which deals and guides are useful.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies. Our cookie policy explains more and how you can control cookies in your browser.
When you click through to a retailer
Many links on our site are affiliate links. When you click one, the affiliate network and the retailer may record that you came from our site, usually with a cookie, so we can be paid a commission if you buy something. We do not receive your name, address or payment details from the retailer. What the retailer and the network do with your data is covered by their own privacy policies. See how we make money for more.
Why we use your information, and our lawful basis
- Sending deal emails: we rely on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us.
- Replying to your messages and handling complaints: we rely on our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us.
- Site statistics: we use Jetpack Stats to understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- Keeping the site secure and working: we rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website.
- Meeting legal obligations: for example, keeping records we are required to keep.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the site and our emails. They handle data on our behalf and only as we instruct.
- Site statistics: Automattic (Jetpack Stats, stats.wp.com)
- Email sign-up: MailPoet is installed to collect sign-ups. Confirmation emails are not sending yet, because Amazon SES is not configured.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on legal safeguards recognised under UK law, such as UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it for the reason we collected it. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you deal emails.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information that is wrong
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to limit how we use your information
- object to us using your information on the basis of legitimate interests
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing
- ask us to move your information to another organisation, in some cases
To use any of these rights, contact us using the details above. We will not charge you, except in the rare cases the law allows.
Keeping your information safe
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and we only give access to people and providers who need it. No website can be completely secure, so please contact us if you think something has gone wrong.
Complaints to the ICO
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the way we use personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last checked. If a change is significant, we will tell subscribers by email.
